How to play poker?
In traditional poker, there are two to seven players. The dealer of the tash game deals two cards to the players and the player to his left is the first player in each round. The player has two choices. ‘bet’ or ‘check’ (do nothing).
If someone places a bet, the other players have the following options
- Call (equal to your bet).
- Pass (exit the game).
- Raise (place a bet greater than the bet placed on the current turn. The other players may equal this raise or raise again if they wish to remain in the game).
This round continues until everyone has been paid or all bets have been placed in the pot in the center of the table.
After the first round of the game of betting is over, the dealer deals three more cards to the table face up. These three cards are called the public cards and can be taken by anyone. This is called the flop. Whoever is left at the table has the opportunity to bet, raise, or fold.
After each player has taken his or her turn, the dealer places a fourth card on the table for everyone to use. This is called the “turn”.
After each player of the game has had a chance to bet/check/raise/retire, the dealer places a 5th number of cards on the table for anyone to take. This is called the “river”. Finally, everyone has a chance to bet/check/raise/retire.
After the last bet, if there is more than one player left, the cards are revealed and the player with the high value wins the pot.
Tips for winning
- When bluffing, look at the entire hand. If you go all-in to win the pot, a smart opponent will sense it and tell you that you are bluffing.
- Take a small break if you would like your emotions to take over. To play this game, you must have a poker face or a straight face.
- Know the odds of your hand, which is basically the probability of things happening. If you suspect a bad hand, then fold in the early rounds.
